Here’s the first completed page to be released for failsafe! Tell me it’s not gorgeous.
Now that we’ve hit the minimum goal for our funding (!!!), we’re going for what we’ll need for a professional print run. Reaching that would mean producing more comics for a lower cover price, which means everybody wins!
There are still a ton of great rewards left, including original art from the immensely talented artist, Ryan Cody. So check it out, spread the word, and help Ian Struckhoff make awesome indy comics.

Summaries!
So, Tumblr-folks (and other folks who followed a link here), The BLC team is currently working on some short summaries for Failsafe. We figured the best way to know we’ve got a good one is to ask the people we’re trying to, er, summarize to. So, let us know —either with reblogs, the ask-box, twitter (@BLCsidekick), or however you want to get a hold of us— what works.
Numero uno:
The intoxicating Nebula Sirens are rumored to have lured many captains before her to their deaths, but Penny Laertes is determined to be the first to make it through their territory unscathed. With only an unflappable computer and a photo of her wife to keep her focused, she takes every precaution to prevent their influence— but in setting up these failsafes Penny may have finally outsmarted herself!
Dos:
With only a cargo-ship’s computer and tattered picture of her wife as company, Captain Penny Laertes passes through an infamous nebula. The mysterious Sirens rumored to occupy this section of space are said to entice travelers to their doom. Penny has taken every precaution to prevent their interference, but in doing so she may have outsmarted herself.
Tres:
Penny Laertes —Long-haul space trucker, devoted wife, and cheap beer aficionado — is passing through the mysterious home of the Nebula Sirens. Curiosity has lured her there, and when her meticulous planning backfires, she must rely on her wits to escape.
Let us know what works and what doesn’t! Which one makes you want to read the comic?
A Failsafe tribute by ~la-sinopia on DeviantArt. Awesome cover-like layout, and it even has her cargo-ship in the background!
Definitely worth checking out the pencils for this piece, too. http://ian-x.deviantart.com/favourites/44062439#/d3l3hll

More Penny from Jonathan Wyke (*drdestiny on DeviantArt), who is an artist on another BLC project, Huginn and Muninn. He’s got a way with characters, making their personalities pop. Penny is her perfect adventurous, possibly mischievous self in this picture, and I love it.
This is, I believe, the newest piece of Failsafe fanart by the incredible Betty Black (~BettyBlackComics on deviantArt). I can’t get over how cool this looks. Perfect for the concept. Striking and creepy in all the right ways. :D
Here’s the design for Captain Penny Laertes, again by Ryan Cody.
…She’s pretty much a badass.
We’ll be keeping an eye on any tags that involve BLC or any of its projects, so if you post some fanart or a review or anything else you just might see it reblogged here. So don’t be shy!
A stunning depiction of a Nebula Siren by Daniel Govar (*saulone on DeviantArt).
As many of you know, the current project (well, currently being promoted project, as I’m pretty sure Ian has about about a dozen concepts and plots and characters bouncing around his head at any given time) from Black Label Comics is Failsafe.
The rundown is here, taken from the project’s Kickstarter main page:
Captain Penny Laertes’s latest freight run has taken her past a nebula that’s reputed to be home to Nebula Sirens. Over the ages, various space-faring cultures have encountered the mysterious, beautiful, and strange black-bodied beings that live unprotected in space. Early explorers are said to have believed the creatures to be predators of a sort, tempting men to space-walk into the nebular clouds. Penny is about to find out whether they are as dangerous as all the rumors say. (This story combines elements of space-going adventure, a theme from the Odyssey, and a darker survival story.)
Or, as I like to put it: The Odyssey! Space! Lesbians!
If this sounds even remotely interesting to you, go ahead and click on the picture and check out the Kickstarter. If you want, you can pledge some money and get some pretty neato rewards, all while helping Ian and his crazy-talented artist Ryan Cody not go broke!
